Faculty Medicine & Surgery

Salaam University started the academic activity in 2009 as a medical school to help train local doctors and health workers. The Faculty of Medicine & Surgery provides a high-level quality teaching, facilitated by overseas trained specialist in their field. Faculty of Medicine and Surgery offers combined Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. Medical training is six years which is divided in two-part of three years each, the first part is mainly taught courses with lab, and classroom practice where students gain knowledge in human body, how it functions and how to examine, and the second part is in turn divided into two, first two years of clinical courses with emphasis diseased body, practical skills in classroom, MCHs and Hospitals and last year of medical training, graduating doctors do one-year hospital internship with obligatory rotations that every student has to go through in six different specialties, typically including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Community and Emergency Medicine, during the internship students work in the hospitals where they gain hands-on training from the expert doctors and staff at the various teaching hospitals across Mogadishu.
