Supporting Our Students
As a non-profit institution, Salaam University believes that financial circumstances should never be a barrier to quality education. We offer four scholarship and bursary programmes to support students from all backgrounds, funded through university reserves and donor contributions.
Our Scholarship Programmes
Academic Excellence Scholarship
Awarded to outstanding secondary school graduates who demonstrate exceptional academic performance. Recipients must maintain their GPA each semester to retain the award.
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum 80% overall grade in the Somali Secondary School Certificate (SSSC)
- Must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher throughout enrolment
- Full-time enrolment in any SU faculty
- No outstanding disciplinary record
Financial Need Bursary
Designed to ensure that no qualified student is denied access to higher education due to financial constraints. Bursary amounts are reviewed every academic year based on available funding.
Eligibility Criteria
- Demonstrated financial hardship — family income below the threshold reviewed annually
- Completed SSSC with a passing grade of 50% or above
- Submission of a financial need statement signed by a community elder or local authority
- Annual review by the SU Financial Aid Committee
Orphan & Vulnerable Students Grant
Salaam University is committed to social responsibility. This grant provides full or partial fee waivers to orphaned and vulnerable students who have no alternative means of funding their education.
Eligibility Criteria
- Verified orphan status or documentation of exceptional vulnerability
- Endorsement from a verified NGO, government body, or community leader
- Minimum passing grade in SSSC
- Commitment to community service activities during studies
Faculty Dean's Scholarship
Awarded each semester by the Faculty Dean to the highest-performing students within each faculty. This scholarship recognises continuing excellence and encourages academic competition.
Eligibility Criteria
- Currently enrolled SU student (not available for first-semester applicants)
- Top 3 ranked student by GPA within their faculty cohort
- No failed courses in the preceding semester
- Nominated by the Faculty Dean — not directly applied for
Scholarship Application Process
First complete the standard SU application. Scholarship consideration begins after you are admitted.
Download the scholarship application form from the Admissions Office or collect in person. Fill out completely.
Attach your SSSC certificate, transcript, financial need letter (if applicable), and any other required supporting documents.
Some scholarships require a brief interview with the Financial Aid Committee. You will be notified if this applies.
The Financial Aid Committee reviews all applications and notifies successful recipients within 15 working days of the application deadline.
