Salaam University Students Conduct Water Quality Testing Across Mogadishu

Students from Salaam University conducted water quality assessments involving samples collected from 20 districts across Mogadishu, 15 water factories, the Afgooye River, and seawater. The activity aimed to evaluate selected physical and chemical characteristics of water from different sources.

The assessments focused on Physical and Chemical Water Quality Tests, which help evaluate water characteristics and identify indicators that may suggest contamination or other water quality concerns.

Preliminary findings indicated that some well water samples and samples collected from certain districts showed signs that may suggest contamination or unsatisfactory water quality. These preliminary observations require further laboratory testing and verification before any definitive conclusions can be made about the safety of the affected water sources.

The activity provides students with valuable practical experience in water quality assessment and scientific investigation. It also strengthens their understanding of environmental health, public health protection, and the importance of monitoring water sources to help prevent water-related health risks.
