A Message to Guardians
We understand that entrusting your child's education to any institution is a significant decision. At Salaam University, we take that responsibility seriously. This page answers the questions most commonly raised by parents and guardians and explains how the university works to support every student in its care.
Understanding the Admissions Process
What guardians need to know about how SU selects students.
- Applications are submitted online or in person at the Admissions Office — guardians are welcome to accompany their child
- Acceptance is based on academic grades, faculty requirements, and available places — not connections or payments
- The admissions team will communicate with both the student and their guardian at each stage
- If an application is unsuccessful, the Admissions Office will explain the reason and advise on next steps
Fees and Financial Planning

- Flexible installment plans are available to spread costs across the semester
- Scholarship and bursary programmes exist for students with outstanding academic records or financial need
- The Finance Office can discuss payment arrangements — guardians are welcome to attend any such meetings
- All fees are transparent and published — students should never be asked for unofficial payments
Student Welfare and Support
How SU safeguards and supports your child during their studies.
- The Student Affairs Office is available to any student facing academic, personal, or social difficulties
- Lecturers are accessible during published office hours for academic support
- The university operates a zero-tolerance policy on bullying, harassment, and discrimination
- Any welfare concern can be reported confidentially to the Student Affairs Office
- Female students are supported by dedicated female counsellors and staff
Guardian Involvement
How you can stay involved and informed during your child's studies.
- Guardians may attend open days, faculty orientation events, and graduation ceremonies
- Progress concerns can be raised through the Student Affairs Office — we encourage open communication
- Fee receipts and financial records are provided to both students and their designated guardians upon request
- Guardians are not permitted to attend lectures, examinations, or internal academic meetings
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I accompany my child to submit the application?
Yes. Guardians are welcome to visit the Admissions Office with their child. However, the application itself must be filled in and signed by the applicant.
How will I know if my child has been accepted?
An acceptance letter is issued to the applicant. Guardians who are listed as emergency contacts will also be notified via phone if requested.
What happens if my child fails an examination?
Students who fail a course may be eligible to resit the examination in the supplementary period. Persistent academic failure is reviewed by the Academic Committee. Guardians are notified if a student is placed on academic probation.
Is there a dress code at Salaam University?
Yes. Students are expected to dress modestly and professionally at all times in line with Somali cultural values. The full dress code is outlined in the Student Policy.
What if we cannot afford the tuition fees?
Please contact the Admissions Office immediately. We have scholarship and bursary programmes for students with financial need and we will try to find a solution before turning away a qualified student.
