Salaam University is committed to the principles of good governance: transparency, accountability, participation, and the rule of law. Our governance structure ensures that decisions are made by the right bodies, for the right reasons, with appropriate oversight at every level.
Governing Bodies
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the supreme governing body of Salaam University. It sets institutional policy, ensures financial sustainability, approves strategic plans, and upholds the university's mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Approve the university's strategic plan and annual budget
- Appoint and evaluate the Rector
- Ensure compliance with national higher education regulations
- Safeguard the university's assets and long-term sustainability
- Approve amendments to the university charter and bylaws
University Senate
The Senate is the highest academic authority at Salaam University, responsible for all matters relating to teaching, learning, research, and academic standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and maintain academic standards across all faculties
- Approve new academic programs and curriculum changes
- Confer degrees, diplomas, and other academic awards
- Oversee examination policies and student assessment
- Promote research and scholarly activity across the university
Academic Council
The Academic Council advises the Senate and Rector on all academic matters. It includes the Rector, Vice Rectors, and all Faculty Deans, and meets regularly to coordinate academic planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate academic planning across faculties
- Review and recommend new programs to the Senate
- Monitor student academic performance and welfare
- Advise on faculty appointments and promotions
- Review and improve teaching quality and methods
Disciplinary Committee
The Disciplinary Committee handles all matters relating to student conduct, academic integrity, and staff discipline, ensuring a fair and respectful university environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and adjudicate student misconduct cases
- Enforce the Student Policy and Code of Conduct
- Handle academic integrity violations including plagiarism
- Recommend sanctions and restorative actions
- Advise the Rector on disciplinary appeals
